Hollingsworth - John M. - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

John M. Hollingsworth, for many years a leading citizen of Darlington, Ind., died in Indianapolis on Saturday while on a visit to his daughter, Mrs. Jonas F. Johnson. He was born near Jeffersonville, Ind., more than fifty seven years ago, but for many years had been a merchant and leading businessman of Darlington. He was a Grand Army man, having been a member of Company M, Eleventh Indiana Cavalry. He had been successful in his business enterprises and had retired from active business. He had made all his plans for himself and wife to move to Indianapolis that they might be nearer their daughter. His health had not been good for three or four years and recently he had suffered severely from rheumatism. He went to Martinsville on Tuesday for the sake of the water there and on Wednesday expressed himself as feeling unusually well. On Wednesday evening he had an attack of hemorrhage of the bowels. His friends were telegraphed for and he was brought to Indianapolis on Thursday evening. Everything possible was done for him, but he steadily grew worse and died, as above stated. Mr. Hollingsworth’s friends say he was a man of rough exterior, but of warm sympathies and fine impulses, and was generous in the support of every worthy cause. He leaves a wife in feeble health and an only child, Mrs. Johnson.
